What is noise!! Well generally noise is actually any irritable sound that has the capacity to annoy us. Repetitive, loud, siren like sounds that we seem not to like listening to.
Well ‘noise’ is also ’sound’!! and arranged in a none irritating way can actually be very listenable. The properties or frequencies of noise have a much more interesting base than say the ‘do re mi’ of music.
‘Noise’ to some has become the alternative to most of the music that is currently being produced across most ‘genres’ and across the world of music.
‘Noise’ has been used to describe unwanted sounds!! However, some of us, noisicians or noise practitioners, who are not traditional musicians are interested in using noise for it’s dynamic properties, rather than it’s annoying properties.
Any sound or musical note can be used in a very ‘noisesome’ way which will be capable of annoying many people.
Noisicians generally do not use traditional instruments to create the sounds they record. They will look to discover sounds in unconventional ways using tiny microphones called ‘piezos’ which create vibrations which can then be amplified and channeled through FX units to create new sounds, or they will take an electronic kids toy or keyboard and rewire its circuits to create an all together different noise box that can produce very unusual sounds, this is known as ‘circuit bending’.
